Heraldry
The oldest family crest of Thut from Seengen is placed on a goblet which was a gift from Hans Hartmann from Hallwil in 1617 to the gun club of Seengen. Since 1798 it has been used as a chalice.
There is a Maltese cross on a star wich is on top of 3 mountains.
Because of the church of Seengen has been a member of the Maltese order from 1302 to the reformation, it’s almost certain that the family Thut must have been close relationship to the Church. So they were allowed to take the Maltese cross in their own family crest.
The letters BD which sometimes are on the Thut family crest must refer to Burckhart Thut (1586 – 1636), he was a master and probably a friend to «Hans Rudolf from Hallwil».
